Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after having two bids rejected recently. The latest bid was in excess of £ 40 million, which would have broken Arsenal’s transfer record quite easily. Their current record stands at a mere £ 17 million. Arsenal are under pressure to make a big signing in order to pacify the fans, who have seen the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool strengthen substantially in the last few weeks. Liverpool and Tottenham are expected to be the major challengers along with Arsenal for the final fourth place.
Arsenal have not won the Premier league trophy in the last nine years. However, manager Wenger has always sounded extremely confident about the chances of Arsenal winning a trophy at the start of the new season. It is no different this time around, as the Frenchman believes that Arsenal have enough quality in their ranks to win the title. He has also said that the arrival of Suarez will not determine the outcome of Arsenal’s season. Suarez managed to score 30 goals following last season despite being suspended for several matches.
After the loss of Robin van Persie, Arsenal struggled to score the vital solitary goal in several matches last season.
“You know me well enough to come to your own conclusions over this, but I would like to keep anything we do to ourselves. We have always acted in a fair and respectful way and we will continue to do so. Now we must focus on the players we have – and this team can win the Premier League title. We will treat every transfer with the rules we have always done until now. That is our club. At the moment, that is where we are,” said Wenger after the 2-1 defeat against Galatasaray in a friendly.
