ARSENAL WANT STRENGTH

Arsenal are believed to be keen on strengthening the midfield before the end of the transfer window. The constant injury problems faced by Jack Wilshere left Arsenal with a major gap to fill last season. Wenger has identified this position as something that can be strengthened between now and the end of the transfer window. Arsenal have been following a number of players like Marouane Fellaini of Everton and German international Lars Bender. However, they are yet to make a concrete offer for these players. Arsenal legend Stewart Robson has said that Wenger should not waste much time in making an offer for Fellaini.

The 25-year-old Belgian international has widely been linked with a move away from Everton after the departure of David Moyes. Chelsea were extremely keen on the midfielder, who provides a huge physical presence in the midfield. He is also capable of playing as a striker when needed as well. His versatility and other factors make him an ideal player for Arsenal according to Robson. Arsenal will be entering into their ninth year without a major trophy, and the pressure on Wenger is certainly growing rapidly than before.

Arsenal are thought to have made an official contact with Bayern Leverkusen over the £ 20 million rated Bender, but Robson is of the opinion that Fellaini offers much more than the German.

“Arsenal need a real strong backbone in that midfield. I would get Fellaini if he’s available. I’ve seen him play many different roles for Everton. He’s not going to be an expansive passer but Arsenal have got those expansive players, they need to now get a balance between the creative side and the more destructive side, you can’t have one without the other,” said Robson about the Belgian, who scored 11 goals for Everton last season.
